The Faith Once For All Delivered To The Saints

“The fact of the matter is that Christian theology is something settled. Our faith is not something that we are to discover-rather it is something we are to receive. Paul speaks of the deposit of truth he received from heaven. He passed it on to Timothy, who was to pass it on to faithful men, etc. (2 Tim. 1:8-2:7). The Apostles never tell anyone to discover the truth; rather they command that it must be passed on. This requires great humility of us. It means that we cannot approach Scripture with the idea that we are archaeologists on a quest to dig up unknown relics from the past. Nor are we explorers, seeking out new doctrines and new practices, going where no Bible-reader has gone before. Rather, we are humble students who come to receive that which God has revealed millennia ago, and which has been recognized by the people of God though all ages.”*- Dr. James Renihan
